It's Summer!

And all we can think of is Fall. All of us at the studio have been so busy designing our Fall line we've hardly had time to notice the sunshine and flowers and greenery around us. But it's going to be worth it...I'm so excited about the pieces we have in the works for Fall! We'll keep you posted, in the meantime, enjoy the wonderful weather.

What's red and white and paisley all over?

The Mew Mew dress of course! Miranda shows off our latest arrival, the empire waisted, ruched-back, boldly patterned Mew Mew. For those hot lazy days when all you want to do is roll out of bed, throw on something pretty and light and see where the day takes you.

It's almost here!

Summer that is. And what better way to celebrate than treating yourself to one of these beautiful new styles that have just arrived in store?

Jill graciously models some favorites.

This is a very special Sophia dress, it's cut from Japanese 1960s hand-printed silk-blend fabric. Only 10 were made so it's not likely you'd ever see someone else wearing the same dress. I think it's my favorite of all the Sophias, I just love the colours, the pattern, the feel of the fabric. I really like how the bold silkscreen and delicate details of this dress work in combination.

Here's our favorite top of the Summer, it's called the Mew Mew. Simple and breezy as can be with elastic ruching detail at the back and an intricate vintage-feeling print. Like your great-grandmother's favorite wallpaper. I'll be wearing this one all summer, especially if the weather gets as hot as I hope it does.

The Kiki top has been very popular so far this Spring at Nokomis and I think the Kiki dress, shown here, will prove to be just as in vogue. It's made of the same soft cotton swiss dot as the Kiki top and is a great basic for loading up with accessories or for layering. Good for all seasons.

Another dress we around here think is kindof special is the Bubble. You can't help but pose and smile as soon as you put it on. The large Art Deco floral print well suits our aesthetic sensibilities and the bubble hem, gathered bustline and halter tie make it deliciously girly. Perfect for wedding season--just try not to upstage the bride ok?

Purses for Sale

These are our 3 favorite purses in the Nokomis Studio and we are going to try having them manufactured in Calgary! This is so exciting because it means Genevieve won't be sewing them all in house anymore! And hopefully they will be available to order wholesale for Fall 2007. They are made from recycled and new leather which makes them all one of a kind and we recently bought some shiny gold hardware to make them extra special. We'll keep you updated on prices and what not.

Hand-printed Jersey now in Store

Our beautiful Bamboo jersey tops and dresses have just come back to the store. The three styles are made from a sustainable bamboo/cotton blend so soft and delicate it makes for the most ideal of summer garments. Like wearing silky cobweb knit into jersey. We hand-print all of our jersey fabric at the studio before cutting, making every shirt slightly different and unique. And we've made sure to include all our favorite summer colours: creamy ivory, mustard, butter yellow, salmon pink and black. Laurel's stunning cloud prints make me long for lazy afternoons lying in the grass and eating picnic lunches.

Kitty Tank, front and back, in Ivory Bamboo with salmon pink/mustard cloud prints

Kitty Dress, available in Black Bamboo with butter yellow and mustard cloud prints

Lamb tee, cut extra-long for summer layering, with scoop-front neck and low scoop at back, available in both Black Bamboo with butter yellow & mustard clouds and....

...Cream with mustard and pink clouds

New Tees

Laurel has been madly printing since our new American Apparel came in last week. We've got a bunch of new colours and styles too; also, amazing new print designs that Laurel's been dreaming up with nods to Faust and other literary animalia. The Noko favorite seems to be "two heads are better than one", though I still love Mephistopheles-as-poodle.

We're trying out some new styles of t-shirts this summer including a scoop-neck, capped-sleeve tee. You can also mark the return of extra-long U-neck tanks, sheer V-neck tees and round necked summer tees in beautiful shades of grey, lilac and a rich teal green. These are exciting times, ladies.

It's been a busy week!

We've all been really busy this week at the studio, getting ready for Edmonton Fashion Week and our fashion show next Thursday, the 29th, organizing a buying trip to Montreal and, of course, madly trying to draft patterns for Fall. It's all very exciting but wears a girl out.

Lots has been going on at the store as well, they're receiving new items all the time including our beautiful white eyelet Chemise dresses, which came in yesterday. Talk about a perfect summer dress, short and sweet and exquisitely girly. I'm so excited to wear mine and, considering the weather lately, it shouldn't be long before I can romp around in it sans tights. Hurrah. An Edmonton Spring is finally on the way--it's all Dolly Parton cassettes and hot dogs from here on in.

I hope everyone can come out to our fashion show Thursday at Planet Ze Design Centre, 10055-80 avenue, starting at 8pm. It should be a great show, a bit of a big deal too as it will be the first time we show items solely from our Nokomis house line. I know I'm nervous and excited.

And just because, here's a cutesy photo of Genevieve and I at Amelia's art opening last week with the dog who could finally make me like dogs.
