i think the favorite part about my job is going to the local antique malls looking for tresures. it's a tough job, but somebody's got to do it. check out my recent finds:
a globe! i've always wanted a globe, so i couldn't recent this one.
i've also always wanted benches in the changerooms, little stools or something so you don't have to throw your purse and clothes on the floor. TA-DA:
i feel like spring cleaning/organizing fever has hit me a little early this year. i've cleaned out my office and the vault and am adding new things to the store too. i guess since spring comes early in the fashion retailing world, it's only natural that spring cleaning would come early too. and really, all it means is that i will have more time for bike rides in april (pending no snow, of course).

new tee shirts
my pal, and local illustrator, raymond biesinger dropped off some of his screen tee shirts last week.
this is raymond's own crest of edmonton (poop! rickets! vice!), available on white tee's for $30. we have men's sizes small to large, which is also perfect for the ladies who like them a little over sized. you can check out some of raymond's other work on his etsy site, or else follow him on his blog, the daily sentry.
is it wrong to have the same tee shirt as the dude you are dating? that's the only thing that's stopping me from owning my own crest of edmonton. what if we show up to some event both wearing it. what a potential fashion faux pas! maybe i'll have a talk with him to see if he'd be down with the advice i give friends who buy the same piece at the store: odds/evens custody. one friend gets to wear it on even days, the other odds. special permission can be granted for special events, of course, but that's the general rule. anyway, wish me luck, i really want one!

3 for 2! Whoa!
We're going to be wrapping up the Red Raven Sale soon, but you know what? We need to do a physical inventory count at the end of the month, and the less I have to count, the better. So . . . starting Friday January 22 all sale items will be buy two, get the third for free. Yes! Free! Lowest priced item, of course, but it's still one hell of a deal. Bring a friend, and fight over who gets the free item, or else get three rad items for your own wardrobe, it's up to you! The 3 for 2 runs until Thursday January 28th (when i get back from vegas! it's one of those car dealership sales: 'the boss is out of town, we're clearing out all our inventory' said in deep man voice over the radio).
Okay, so you're down for the 3 for 2, right? Yes!

why hello, stranger!
okay, i fell off the face of the interweb. sorry! just trying to keep the boat sailing smoothly, gearing up for so much fun spring excitment! and why do we have to wait months until we can ride our bikes, drink on the empress patio, picnic at harewlak park, and have crazy dance parties with the windows open!?! i want spring now! ahh. okay. fine, we can wait a few more months, because when it comes, we will embrace it with our entire hearts.
but, good news! we have spring stock! perhaps it's best to call them transitional pieces, but technically they are apart of designers spring collections. a small taste of what spring is going to bring, i suppose. we have Dace, Domino Jeans, tee's and scarves by Hand & Shadow, Supayana and the beautiful Regional Assemble of Text cards (awesome for any occassion: birthdays! valentines! butterflies in the stomach! new baby!). this also means that we have a full corner of the store dedicated solely to new stuff! check it out:
also, Preloved is shipping a whole wack of goodies asap, along with Allison Wonderland, Complex Geometries, and Lily & Jae. hang on, it's just around the corner.

red raven continues
The Red Raven Sale is still going on strong! From Friday January 8 to Sunday January 17 for every $100 you spend, before taxes, receive a $10 gift certificate to use on your next purchase. There are still loads of amazing deals to be found.
And spring stock is around the corner! We will begin to receive new stock at the end of the month, from all your favorite independent canadian designers, including new Dace, Preloved, Supayana, and Cinder + Smoke (our hometown sweetie). Also, just a heads up that there will be a bundle of new designers in the shop this spring (I can count 10 off the top of my head), including clothing by Anastasia Lomonova, Josiane Perron, Mercy, and accessories by Hoi Bo and (oh my, i'm most excited about this!) cards by Vancouver based Regional Assembly of Text! (Anyone want to start a letter writing club?).
So stop by the shop, scoop up the deals and get $$ towards your spring purchases! Win-win!!

Heart Beat Fashion Show
I'm super excited about this weekend. First, it's going to be warm! Ya! Like, -2 warm, which is basically beach weather. Also, lots of fun things going on, including this fashion show:
It's at Latitude 53 on Saturday night, featuring a handful of up and coming local fashion designs, along with music by sans aids and apparently a dj or two. Our own Amanda Jex will be showcasing her line, Jex, as well. Tickets are $10 in advance at nokomis (cash only), or else $12 at the door (or $10 at the door with a non-perishable donation to the food bank). Also, you get to check out fashions by these kids:
Bombshella by Heather Murray
Janine Desjardins
Jex
Cottage Industry Ft. Karly Newbigging
and Couch Dog by Kathryn Newman
So, see you there? Yes? Say yes!

i'm back!
Whew. The holidays are over! I survived! And most importantly, I'm back! I needed a few days of laying in bed, staring at the ceiling to recover, but now I am returning to full speed. And, surprisingly, January has me excited about a few things. First, the Red Raven Sale continues. All clothing is on sale, there are so many super deals to be had. And stay tuned for further promotions, 'cause WHY NOT. (Well, actually, because we need to make space in the shop, but you know, whatevs).
Also, I'm pumped for January because in three short weeks, I'm going to Las Vegas for a little vay-cay, with the bf and his family. And I just know I am going to see some fan-flippin-tastic outfits down there. I think Vegas is made for people watching. Sadly, the Neon Museum is closed for renovations while we're there, but I'm sure we'll find other things to entertain ourselves (Liberace Museum? Atomic Testing Museum? Hoover Dam?).
Thirdly, and arguably the most exciting, in terms of this blog, is that towards the end of this month we are going to begin to receive spring stock! Treasures from Dace, Lily & Jae, and Preloved will begin to trickle in. And I cannot wait. So so so excited. New clothes!
So, if January, traditionally a long and depressing month for me, has me pumped already, I think it's a sign that 2010 is going to a good one, all around. And I have been reading up on my astrology, and Susan Miller agrees with me. Check out your own monthly forecast here!
