tala, our right hand man, left nokomis at the end of august to pursue fashion design at ryerson university in toronto. she is missed dearly, but we are all confident that she is going to do us proud. we hope that one day we will be able to sell her clothing line at the store. (she is currently the designer behind the jewelry line kamea).
since tala started working for noko a year and a half ago, she has inspired all of us. she is stylish beyond words and smart as a whip. she's the girl that shows up at house parties and clubs in bright tights, gold chains, high heels and gets the dance party started. she has a hot bod but can pack back the junk food like nobody's business. she's also the girl that was her high school class valedictorian, has a business degree in marketing and will soon take the fashion industry by storm.
tala has been instrumental in the growth of nokomis this past year. there is no way elizabeth and myself would have been able to orchestrate the moving of the store, the new inventory management system, and the soon to launch on-line store with out the smarts and dedication of tala. we are eternally grateful. in her time here she has also modeled for us, styled photoshoots, produced fashion shows, written business plans and generally kept us all on the ball.
we decided to throw a surprise party for her in mid august. but not just any old surprise party, a tala-themed surprise party. she is always a sucker for dress-up and we couldn't figure out a way to get her to dress up without giving it away. so we all decided to don our most tala inspired wear and have a dance party!
we got up to some re-DONK-ulous dance routines once the wine and sugar kicked in. there were even dance competitions, complete with panel judges, score cards, and prizes (shout out to amanda for taking the top prize!). this was my solo dance routine to 'ride on time' by black box, which was dedicated to tala.
anyway, three cheers for tala. we are going to miss you dearly. thank you so much for everything you gave us, most importantly your friendship.
love,
nokomis
